Virginia Scoggins Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” G. Scoggins passed away at 5:02pm on Thursday December 31, 2020 at Newman Rehabilitation Center, Newman, IL. 

Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, Urbana, will be handling the cremation services.  Due to COVID 19 regulations, there will be no visitation or memorial services. 

Ginny was born on June 23, 1936 to Perry and Dorothy (Davies) Gray in Findley, Ohio and was raised in Hillsdale, Michigan.  She graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1954 and from Michigan State University in 1959 with a degree in Medical Technology.  Ginny married Ross Dean Scoggins and they had 3 children – Brian (Pam) of Tuscola, IL, Laurie (Jeff) of Urbana, IL and Gregg (deceased) of Ashland, VA.  She also had 5 grandchildren – Matthew (Maddison) Scoggins of St. Louis, MO, Meggan (Daniel) Marks of Maricopa, AZ, Steven (Ashlee) Scoggins of Argyle, TX, Jonathan and Phillip Scoggins, both of Ashland, VA and 1 great grandson – Greyson Scoggins. 

Her hobbies included playing golf and bridge and following the Illini.  She was an avid fan of the Illinois Football, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Volleyball and Softball teams and attended as many home and away games as she could. She was also a member of the Illini Quarterback Club and Illini Rebounders Club.  Prior to her retirement in 1999, Ginny worked at Carle Clinic’s laboratory as a medical technician. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Nancy and Mary, brother Gordon and son Gregg.

The family would like to thank Newman Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care that was given to their mom in the 2 ½ years that she was there.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Newman Rehabilitation Center, 418 S. Memorial Park Road, Newman, IL 61942.
