Lucille Smith Obituary

Lucille M. Smith, 89, of Urbana passed away at 2:34 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

A private graveside will be held at a later date.

Lucille was born on October 18, 1928 in Lafayette,LA to parents Wallace and Felicie (Benoit) Magnon. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her brother Kenneth Magnon and her sister Pearl Hutchinson.

On July 1, 1959 Lucille married Richard Goff Smith in Urbana. He passed away on July 6, 2004.

She is survived by her son Robert G. Smith (Lori Wallick) of Fisher.

Lucille earned her Bachelor Degree at the University of Louisiana Lafayette and her Master Degree and Ph.D from the University of Illinois. She taught at the University of Illinois, Monticello and Lafayette LA High Schools and worked in Technical Services at the Champaign Public Library.

She enjoyed the music of James Taylor and was an avid Illini and Cub fan. Lucille was a frequent Scrabble player and an All American Debater in college at the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
