Richard "Rich" Fitzgerald

URBANA – Richard (Rich) Allen Fitzgerald, 56, of Urbana, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at home.

Richard was born September 20, 1961 in Champaign, Illinois to Priscilla and James Fitzgerald.  He married Sandy Miller, his wife of 35 years, on October 30, 1982.  They are long-time members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Urbana.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, and three children, Patrick (Melody) Fitzgerald of Bloomington, Shannon (Casey) Fitzgerald of Champaign, and Seth (Denise) Fitzgerald of Tolono.  He is also survived by his father, Jim, and three sisters, Susan Frick (Tim) of Longview, Jill Corradi of Urbana, and Jamie Perry (Scott) of St. Joseph.  Richard was also blessed with nine nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

Richard enjoyed a full life.  He was a devoted father and his children were truly the light of his world.  He worked at Frasca, International for 34 years and cultivated friendships with people from all over the world during that time.  Fishing at the pond will forever be cherished memories for his children.  He loved to talk and spend time with his friends and family and keeping in touch with everyone on various forms of social media was truly a joy and a blessing for him.  Richard was bigger than life and the lives that he has touched are too numerous to count.  The love and concern from family and friends are what is supporting us all in our time of grief. 

Anyone that knew Richard knew that he would not want us to be sad, so we are having a celebration of his life on March 24, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Eastland Suites Hotel, 1907 N. Cunningham Avenue, Urbana.  Parking is on the north side of the hotel.  Please come and share a meal with his family and also the special memories you have of Rich.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, 215 West Illinois Street, Suite 1C, Chicago, Illinois 60654.  Please include Richard’s name with your gift so that we may be able to thank you in person.  Envelopes will also be available at the Celebration of Life.
