Louis J. Bruno, 94, Champaign-Urbana (formerly of Villa Grove) passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Urbana.
Louis was born on March 8, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York. He married Rita Jaeger in 1955; she preceded him in death. He married Helena Hutcherson in 1992; she preceded him in death. He is survived by his seven children - Phyllis (Glenn), Louis III (Amy), Terri (Bill), Tony (Gail), Pam (Dave), David (Dawn), and Nancy (Joe); thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and one nephew.
A US Army SFC, Louis retired in 1966 after 22 years of service. He served his country in WWII and Korea and received several bronze stars, medals, and awards. He was a member of the VFW and a past commander of VFW Post 2876 in Villa Grove. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1985.
Louis had an outgoing personality and never knew a stranger. He loved music and dancing. He was an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, St Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini. He loved to camp and spent many summers traveling and camping with his family. He was hard-working and dedicated. He will be dearly missed.
Services will be Tuesday, March 13, 2018, with visitation at 11am followed by a memorial service at 1pm at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Burial will be in Villa Grove Cemetery directly following.
