Urbana — Ward Earl Barcus, 83, of Urbana passed away at 11:13pm Wednesday, July 29 at Carle Hospital after suffering a stroke on July 17.
Ward was born March 5, 1937, in Champaign, the son of Charles and Cecil Kapp Barcus. He married Joy Brandon Barcus on August 22, 1964, and she survives in Urbana.
Also surviving are their three children, Judy (Joe) Grindley of Tuscola; Mark (Carla) Barcus of Champaign; and Sheri Barcus of Monticello; five grandchildren, Marci, Cory, Haylie, Brett, and Cale; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jordynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Ward graduated from Urbana High School in 1956. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He owned and operated Barcus Industries, a Formica countertop business, for 37 years in Urbana. He retired in 2002.
Ward had a smile for everyone and didn't know a stranger. All knew him to be kind, honest, and genuine. He could often be found enjoying time with friends at The Elite Diner many years ago and in recent years at Arby's in Urbana. He could fix anything and enjoyed photography, fishing, playing cards with friends, and playing guitar. He enjoyed his Arnold Palmer drinks and loved ice cream.
He will be missed by his family and all who knew him, but especially by his dog Toby who went everywhere with him.
Services will not be held at this time. Condolences can be sent to Joy and the family to 3102 Wynstone Drive, Champaign, IL 61822.
