Thomas W. Cuppernell, 71 of Champaign passed away Tuesday June 10, 2025 at home. Thomas was born January 17, 1954 in Champaign, the son of Walter Anson and Helen Marie (Scheurich) Cuppernell. He married Cynthia Edith Brown on March 29, 1983 in Kensington, MD at the Washington, D.C temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Cynthia of Champaign, daughters, Rebecca A. Cuppernell (Lou) of Flushing, New York and Victoria E. Cuppernell of Champaign. He is also survived grandchildren, Alexis M. Hardwick, George Clark, brothers and sisters, Lois Rahn, Judith Bledsoe, Virginia Cuppernell and Timothy Cuppernell.
He is preceded by his parents and a sister, Patricia Oliver.
Thomas graduated from Parkland College and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Champaign. He worked at the church as janitor and grounds keeper before retirement.
He was an avid gardener and poured over seed catalogs each winter as they started arriving in the mail. He worked with wood and made handmade ornaments for his daughters each Christmas. Family was important to him, and he spent many hours doing genealogy research on his ancestors and others.
Funeral services will be 10:20 a.m. Friday June 20 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 604 W. Windsor Rd., Champaign with visitation one hour prior to service. Bishop Monson will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.
