Sylvia D. Smith, 95, of Urbana passed away at 6:16 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Carle Foundation, Urbana.

She was born in Urbana, IL on July 20, 1929, the daughter of Roland & Hazel (Hartle) Smith. She married Virgil Smith on August 31, 1947, in Urbana, IL.

Sylvia is survived by her daughters- Joyce (David) Clark of Urbana, IL, Virginia (Richard)Beasley of Urbana, IL, Kathleen Hylla of Savoy, IL; son- Brian (Sheila) Smith of Champaign, IL; 9 Grandchildren- Brett, Aaron, Jeff, Stacie, Chris, Todd, Samantha, Trey and Brianne;11 Great Grandchildren; brother – Alan (Joyce) Smith of Paxton, IL; sister- Celia (Don)Snyder of Urbana, IL.

Sylvia worked as a Building Service Worker for the University of Illinois for over 20 years. She also worked for A & K Painting and Family Services.

She was a 4-H leader of Mayview Shamrocks for almost 10 years and a life time member of The Neighborhood Social Club. She was also a member of DAR, Home Bureau, and Ladies Card Club.  She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, animals, and music. She was interested in Astrology and taught herself so well she was asked to teach a class at U of I. She loved researching, identifying, and hunting antiques.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, Il. Pastor David Ashby will be officiating. Visitation will be from 12-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview, IL. Memorials may be made to Michael J.
