Susan Ann Livengood passed on May 31, 2023 at the age of 73. Susan was born on March 28, 1950 in Danville, IL, a daughter of Bernard Louis Filicsky and Randalyn Geraldine Balsley-Taylor. She married Ted Livengood on June 26, 1971. She was the gracious and loving wife to Ted for over 51 years.  She was the loving mother to Heidi (David) Grove of Eugene, OR, Heather Livengood of Champaign, IL, and Jacob (Jennifer) Livengood of Evanston, IL. She was also blessed with wonderful grandchildren who she loved tremendously: Geddy (Carson) Grove of Chicago, Chloe Livengood and Reyna Livengood both of Champaign, and Ryann (Michael) Grove of Eugene, OR. Her great grandchildren were also adored: Brigid and Margot Saulgrove.  Also surviving are two brothers: Matthew (Jan) Filicsky and Patrick (Jeannie) Filicsky; sisters Connie Little, Margaret (Steve) Nixon, and Gerianne (Scott) Heatherton; and several nieces, nephews, and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Randy and Bernard, siblings Teddy, Michael, Teresa, and brother-in-law Tony. 

Susan was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and teacher. She loved helping others and was a retired school teacher from Unit 7 Schools, focusing on middle school science. Although most of Sue’s students would describe her as much more than being a teacher … mentor, counselor, and ally. She was known for her unending optimism, compassion, and tenacity. She greeted each day with a smile, no matter the circumstances. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and treated each and every person she encountered with respect, love, and acceptance. Sue could always be counted on to help out others and lived her life by the Golden Rule. Those who knew her always walked away from a conversation feeling supported and loved. Sue had an unending sense of humor, especially in tough times. She and Ted have always been known as partners in life and “crime.” They faced each and every experience in life together with unending love, devotion, faith, and joy.  

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 S. Prospect Ave, Champaign, Il. Pastor Clyde Snyder will be officiating. Dessert will be served at the church from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at the church. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and perseverance will continue to inspire us all. 

The family asks that donations be made to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank or Crisis Nursery.
