Stoyanka “Tanya” Toneva, 53, of Champaign, passed away on January 8, 2024 at Carle Foundation, Urbana. Tanya was born on the coast of the Black Sea of Burgas, Bulgaria on May 11, 1970 the daughter of Stoyo & Nedyalka Stoyevi. She is survived by soulmate, love of her life and best friend-Michael Mitev; special beloved pup- Spartacus; son- Atanas Nasko Tonev; Mira granddaughter- Alex; mother-Nedyalka; best friend-Radosveta Toneva ;nephews- Martin “Marian Dane & Victor “Veliko” Dane; friends- Frank Bailen, Susan Martinis & Stephen Blanke and children-Danielle, Mikayla & Steven Jr, Melissa Ferdman & Shoshana Cronin, Roza Miteva, Val, George Ilchev, Genady Sdoykov, Perry Ford, Angela Jelesco, Susan Davis, Don Hill, Jim & Lance Smith, Mike Peterson ,John & Tim McNeely, Patrick Bruns, Leszek Lisiak, Mike Murphy, Manol Izanov. She is preceded by her father Stoyo, sister- Kera Stoyeva. Tanya graduated high school and college in Bulgaria. She moved to Champaign, Illinois, to be close to Mike and where she assimilated readily into the Midwest culture of hard-work, generosity and loyalty. Her heart was unmatched, and she championed those who were less fortunate. Tanya worked as a devoted caregiver for many years in Champaign-Urbana and was fiercely loyal to those in her care and those she loved. Tanya treasured nature, gardening, very long walks, animals and had a passion for fitness. Her friends described Tanya as warrior and selfless in her pursuit to help others. She touched so many lives as a caregiver and friend, as well as a by-stander to stand up for those who could not help themselves. Tanya courageously battled the rare and aggressive leiomyosarcoma for over three years, ferociously battling the “monster” while living to its fullest to the end.
