Sherry Marie Weaver

Sherry Marie Weaver, 62, of Urbana, Illinois passed away on Saturday June 8, 2019 at Carle Foundation hospital, surrounded by love and family. Sherry died as a result of injuries suffered while doing what she loved most in life, riding her horse.

Sherry was born on July 12, 1956 to Mary Elenor Weaver (Smith) and Stanley Blake Weaver. She is survived by her brother, Blake Weaver; her sister in law, Dr. Christine Weaver; her nieces, Lindsay (Weaver) Kearns and Jessica Weaver; three great nephews; many cousins; and countless friends in Christ, the birding and horse communities, and fellow outdoorswomen/men. She was predeceased by her parents, and her nephew, Benjamin Joseph Weaver.

In 1978, Sherry graduated with High Honors from the University of Illinois, with a degree in Agriculture. She went on to work at Busey Bank; the University of Illinois Natural History Survey; and the University of Illinois Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations.

Sherry was an avid outdoorswoman. She loved riding horses; biking; birding; and taking in all of God’s natural beauty. She had a quiet, firm faith in Christ, and many friends that she connected with as a result of that faith.

Sherry was fiercely independent, and admiringly self-reliant. Despite her love of autonomy, Sherry had a knack for showing up for those that she loved, just when they needed it. Whether that was in the form of a letter, phone call, or unexpected visit, she offered more support to those that she loved than she would ever take credit for.

A private graveside services will be held. A public visitation will be on Thursday June 13, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Renner Wikoff Chapel, located at 1900 Philo Rd, Urbana, IL 61802. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 23, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sherry’s tranquil farmstead, located at 2002 E. Curtis Road. Dress casual, and come to share food, fellowship, and your favorite stories of Sherry with her family and friends.

Sherry was an ardent supporter of the Prairie Rivers Network (1605 South State Street, Suite 1, Champaign, IL. 61820) and the University of Illinois Stanley B. Weaver Scholarship Fund (University of Illinois Foundation Attn: Stanley B. Weaver Scholarship Fund; P.O. Box 3429 Champaign, IL 61826-3429). Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to those funds in her honor.
