Sharon K. Treat Obituary

Sharon Kay (Martin) Treat passed away on March 7, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Born on December 27, 1942, to Leland and Kathryn (Kay) Mitchell and raised by Frank Martin. She married Victor Treat, Jr., on March 29, 1968, and they spent nearly 57 years enjoying each other; he survives. Together, they raised Marlana (Dale) Ackerman and Catherine (Donnie) Marlow and enjoyed their grandchildren Angel (Adam) Smith, Aaron (Kalee) Ackerman, Dustin (Rayme) Ackerman, Eli (Elizabeth) Marlow, and Mason (Cheyenne) Marlow. She was blessed by the love of her great-grandchildren, Cale, Lane, Kyndell, Lydia, Loretta, Victor, Elijah, Kelsey & Junior, and her great-great-grandson, Manny.

She graduated from Urbana High School. In 1974, she earned her cosmetology operator’s license. Alongside her mother, they ran Empire Beauty Salon until its sale in the 80s. She continued her career at Broadway Classics Salon, finally retiring from the industry from Castillon Court in 2019.

For 10 years, she and Victor danced their nights away with Boot Kickers Western Dance Club. Her passion was creating. She enjoyed jewelry making and painting. Her love for designing flower arrangements and decorating was showcased at her children’s and grandchildren’s weddings. Sharon was always the hostess and made enough food to feed anyone and everyone, and then some. She was an avid shopper and couldn’t leave a store without going up and down every aisle. Sharon passed her shopping hobby on to her great-granddaughters.

Sharon took pride in attending the many, many, many events of her grandkids and great-grandkids. Rain or shine, you would find her toting her snack bag, a cooler full of Gatorade, cream soda, and Mountain Dew, her denim bag, chair if necessary, and God knows what else you may ever need dressed in her team gear, especially the Spartans.

Along with her husband, children, and grandchildren, she is survived by her brother Don (Ricka) McDonald, niece Ricka (Christopher) Davis, nephew Jay (Jennifer) McDonald, aunts Margaret Jamison and Nora Jolley, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her nephew, Christopher McDonald, in-laws, Blanche and Victor Treat, and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Christopher McDonald.
