Russell C Serpetis

Russell C. Serpetis (74) passed away on October 6 at home in Urbana IL. He was born on April 24, 1949 to parents Casimir P. Serpetis and Evelyn C. Gniady, in Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sharon Berry, cousins Carol Bonelli and Michael Tuttle. He is survived by his wife Judy, his son Owen, and cousins Darlene Caliendo and Alan Rekus.

In 1967 Russell graduated from Webber High School in Chicago, IL and went on to earn a bachelor's in arts from the University of Illinois Chicago in 1972 with a major in English literature. Russell would have a variety of occupations throughout his life. During his younger years he was a postal worker a taxi driver and a student lecturer at U of I circle. Russell would take a position at the State of Illinois Dept of Human Services where he worked for the remainder of his career. It was during this time he met his wife to be Judy Bantz. The two married September of 1981 and would soon resettle downstate to raise their only child Owen. He was an avid photographer and countless adventurer who enjoyed fishing, hiking, and camping as well as coin and stamp collecting. Russell retired in the early 2000s. When he would renew his love for travel having already ventured most of the US and Canada he and his wife would set out for Europe visiting 6 countries across the pond. Russell was beloved among friends of Bill. His legacy will be that of a compassionate soul who would impart you his wisdom if only asked and would fill his later years helping others in need. He was your truest companion a most faithless defender and will forever live in the memorys of those who found solace in his counsel. He will be missed most by his loving canine companion Molly who was forever at his side. Russell will be best remembered as a devoted husband a loving father and caring friend to those who knew him best.

Funeral services will be held at Renner Wikoff Chapel

1900 Philo Rd, Urbana on Saturday October 14.  Visitation at 1PM, Services at 2PM
