Robert J. Hart Obituary

Robert John Hart Sr., of Rantoul, Illinois, passed away on December 13, 2025, following complications from cancer.

Robert was born on August 30, 1965. He served honorably in the United States Army, including time with Special Forces, and completed multiple deployments to Central America in support of ongoing conflicts, dedicating many years of his life to the service of his country.

Robert had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed playing guitar and had a deep love for music, whether listening to it or seeing it performed live. He loved watching drag racing and also enjoyed building and driving race cars, as well as the time spent with his racing friends. He enjoyed going for a good drive, spending time around motorcycles, and watching the Chicago Blackhawks. Robert also enjoyed a good debate and, without a doubt, had a great sense of humor — he loved to laugh and made those around him laugh as well. Above all, he was a friend who could always be counted on.

Robert is survived by his wife, Monika Hart of Rantoul; his parents, Prudence Kay Cookson (Don) of Mahomet and Oliver Costich (Blanca) of San Diego; his brother, Steve Hart (Connie) of Urbana; his children, Christina Stanley (Louie) of Paxton, Robert Hart Jr. (April) of Fisher, Oliver Hart of Rantoul, and Johnathan Hart of Rantoul; his niece, Jennifer Hart of Urbana; and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is joined in heaven by his “Gma and Gpa,” Donald and Laura Davidson, his aunt Judy Short (Ronald), and his longtime partner in crime, Jack Cunningham Sr.

A service honoring Robert’s life will be held on December 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 South Philo Road, Urbana, IL 61802
