Richard I. Wilcoxon, 72, of Urbana passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Rick was born in Champaign, IL. On February 22, 1953, the son of Roy & Charlotte (Walling) Wilcoxon. He married Deborah Johnson on December 19, 1972.

Rick is survived by his wife, Debbie. He leaves behind his children: Chad (Jacki) Wilcoxon of Ogden, IL, and Angie (Brian) Varnum of Danville, IL. Rick was a proud grandfather to Clayton, Paige, Calin, Dalton, Alyssa, and Landon, and nine great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Rick is also survived by his brother, Roy Wilcoxon and his wife JoElla of Urbana, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene, and Barbara Johnson, along with his brothers-in-law, Jamie and Frank Johnson (Nancy); his lifelong best friend, Roy Thurman, and his beloved dogs, Zoey and Bella who brought him comfort and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sharon Collins, brother-in-law Millard Collins and grandson, Mikhel.

Rick was a proud member of Laborers’ Local 703 since 1978 and ended his career with A & R Services in 2010.

Rick enjoyed cars and racing; however, Rick’s greatest joy in life was spending time with those he loved beginning with his lifelong childhood friends, his wife of 53 years, his children, and grandchildren. Rick and Debbie have shared a lifelong bond supporting each other through every twist and turn, especially in the challenging years through Rick’s illnesses.

Rick's legacy will endure, and everyone fortunate enough to have known his love will miss him until we are reunited. We take comfort in knowing Rick is no longer in pain; is running free on the streets of gold with his loved ones that went before him.
