Richard W. Gomperts Obituary

Richard W. Gomperts, 62, of Champaign passed away at 12:01
a.m. on September 11, 2023 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.
He was born on February 27, 1961 in Champaign, IL the son of
John and Maryellen (Brittenham) Gomperts. He married Gladys
June Walter on April 23, 1988.
Richard is survived by his wife, brother John (Sandra) Gomperts
of Urbana, sister Donna Debelak of Westchester, IL, extended
family Tateyana Hunt and La Dimond Keyes; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded by
his parents and brother-in-law Henry Debelak.
He worked 28 years as a computer operator for Hobbico. He
was a member of New Covenant Fellowship. He also acted as
the liaison between the church and the Daily Bread Soup
Kitchen where he was a regular volunteer - helping others was
very important to him. He was an avid Star Trek fan and a
World War II history buff.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel. Visitation will be from 11-12:00 p.m. at the funeral home
