Raymond (Ray) Donald McGavran, 94, of Urbana, passed away peacefully at home at 10:50 pm on Thursday, July 6, 2023. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 5:00 – 6:00 pm at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 South Philo Road, Urbana, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 14 at the funeral home, with the Reverend Christine Hopkins officiating. A burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Champaign. Raymond was born July 3, 1929, in Numa, Iowa to parents Charles Earl and Betty Mae (Winger) McGavran. He married Julia Ann Harl on August 29, 1948, in Seymour, Iowa. Their marriage was a true love story which lasted nearly 70 years until Julia’s passing in March of 2018. Raymond is survived by three children, Franklin Raymond McGavran, of Lexington, Kentucky, Julie Rae Savignac (Sam Feinberg) of Urbana, Jacqueline Ann McGavran of Urbana, and two grandchildren, Amanda Hopkins (Matthew), and Dawn Osborn (Chris). Also surviving are an additional 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Frederick Donald McGavran, his beloved wife, Julia, his parents, and his siblings
