Nancy Virginia (Smith) Haessly Obituary
Nancy Virginia (Smith) Haessly, a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025 at the age of 85. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Patricia Van Bergen of Manchester, NJ and Amy Haessly of Aurora; and her beloved grandchildren, Jacob Holmstrom and Kaitlyn Van Bergen.
Nancy was born on April 9, 1940 in Decatur. During her childhood, she lived in Monticello and Seymour. Nancy was a member of the Mahomet High School class of 1958. She attended Illinois State Normal University and took business courses at Illinois Commercial College in Champaign. She spent her career working as an administrative assistant at several businesses in the Champaign-Urbana area.
Nancy married Robert Mathias Haessly on April 26, 1968. They lived on Anderson Street in Urbana for 50 years and she was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She loved nature, country music and traveling. Nancy was predeceased by Robert in 2020, and shortly thereafter moved to Maple Point Assisted Living in Monticello, followed by a move to Brighton Gardens in Wheaton in 2023.
A Catholic service will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana on Saturday, July 12. Visitation will be at 9 AM, followed by mass at 10.
Donations to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or the Dementia Society of America are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
