CHATHAM, IL-  Michael William Haskins, 30, of Chatham, Illinois passed away at 3:56 PM, Thursday, September 28, 2023 in Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.  As Michael wished, a celebration of his life will be Held Friday evening, October 13th 2023 from 5-8pm at the Alto Vineyards, 4210 N Duncan Road, Champaign, IL, directly off of Interstate 74 and near the University of Illinois campus to honor and showcase Michael’s beliefs and loves the way he wanted. We ask all those who can, to attend this celebration for him.

Michael was born December 9, 1992 in Slidell, Louisiana, a son of David Olmsted and Kathleen Adams.  He married Ross Andrew Haskins on January 9, 2015 in Champaign.  Ross survives.  Also surviving are his father, David of Urbana, mother, Kathleen of Champaign, sister, Jenny Lynn Olmsted of Atlanta, GA, and partner Ethan Brazee of Chatham.

Michael graduated from the University of Illinois College of Business where he was Vice President of the Fraternal Organization Phi Beta Lambda. Michael was known to be the most organized and effective planner for their events, known for his beyond exceptional attention to detail. Michael was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Parkland College where he served as their treasurer. Michael was a member of the organization EOTP while attending the University of Illinois and is forever known as then man who could command any room by mere presence alone. In his career Michael served as an auditor for the State of Illinois, well known and loved by his colleagues and superiors as well as being integral to several historic audits that were later presented to the Illinois Congress. Michael was a lover of puzzles, enigmas, poetry, art, dance, food, ancient cultures, world religions and all studies of far eastern Zen. He drew inspiration from the heroism of his mother through her life, a sense of curiosity towards the world passed to him by his father, and a bravery to challenge new heights from his sister. He inspired us all and he will be sorely missed by every life he touched.
