Mary Elnora Sweet of Urbana, IL passed away at 8:37 PM on January 9, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital. She was born January 13, 1940, in Champaign, IL to Samuel & Geneva (Johnson) Scott.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Donald (Donna) Scott, and her brother Robert (Phyllis) Scott.

She is survived by her sister Cindy (Ed) Cook, her loving husband Howard "Grandpa Jim" Sweet of 42 years, her son Michael (Jill) Odom, and daughter Kristy (Tim) Mitchaner. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Matthew (Misty) Odom, Jacob (Autumn) Odom, and Mary Katherine "Katie" (Jacob) Jones as well as her five great-grandchildren Parker Odom, Chason Odom, Reagan Odom, Aubrey Odom, and Baby Jones.

A loyal mother and friend, she was and is beloved by her family and others as someone whose family was always the most important thing in her life. She was very proud to be an Urbana graduate and was also proud that her family was too.

In recent years, Mary loved her work with special needs children with First Student in the Urbana School District.
