URBANA, IL-  Maria Alfonso Rivera, 93, of Urbana, passed away at 3:40 AM, Sunday, February 19, 2023 at University Rehab in Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, with visitation one hour prior(12:00 Noon-1:00 PM). Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana immediately following the funeral service. Maria was born December 14, 1929 in Jaquey Grande, Cuba, a daughter of Jose and Ernestina(Cazimajou) Alfonso.  She married Francisco Rivera on July 17, 1974.  He preceded her in death.  Survivors include a son, Leonardo(Jane) Sanchez of Urbana, IL, three grandchildren, Gina Dawkins(Clayton) of Monticello, Garron Sanchez(Kristie) of Champaign, Dustin Sanchez of Urbana;  two great grand children, Mason and Brooks, and a sister, Emilia Rey of Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and nine siblings. Maria worked as a sterile processing technician for Mercy Hospital in Urbana for many years and she attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Susan G.
