Obituary

– LouSarah (Borum) Sellars, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and child of God, passed away at the age of 89, on, Tuesday August 15th, 2023 at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.  She was a former resident of Champaign and Savoy, where she had many life-long friends. LouSarah was born October 6, 1933, on the family farm, in Creal Springs, Illinois. She was the youngest of 9 children born to George W. and Lola Borum.  LouSarah attended a one room schoolhouse in Creal Springs and in 1951 graduated from Marion Township High School.  She met her husband, James W. Sellars on a blind date. They were married April 28, 1951; he preceded her in death, August 5, 1987. Shortly after their marriage, J.W. was drafted into the Army.  LouSarah accompanied him to Fairbanks Alaska and Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, where their daughter, Sheila, was born in 1953.  After being discharged from the Army, the young family followed the pipelines across the country (for J.W.’s work), pulling a small house trailer behind their car.  In 1955 they welcomed their second daughter, Elaine, to the family.  LouSarah and her husband built one of the original houses in Savoy, where she was a stay-at-mom. She was an active volunteer and member of the Savoy United Methodist Church, Savoy Dames Club, PTA, Boots and Bows Square Dancing Club, and Savoy Pinochle Club. She also was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. LouSarah loved to laugh and be the life of the party. She made friends everywhere she went.  Her optimistic, even tempered, common-sense, hardworking attitude was an inspiration to family, friends and colleagues. She was, extremely organized and kept an immaculate house and weed less garden. She loved to decorate for every season and holiday.  After her daughters graduate from high school she worked at Ayr-Way, and the Urbana Kmart as a retail sales associate.  She worked at the Urbana Kmart a month before it opened until its closing and retired from there.  She loved Blue Light Specials and she had the jewelry, and her grandson had the fishing lures, to prove it. During her retirement she moved from Savoy to Champaign where she joined the Hays Senior Citizen Center.  She attended their potlucks and helped in the kitchen. Everyone loved her mashed potatoes, potato salad, refrigerator pickles and pecan pie.  She loved to play Uno and Skipbo and go on senior trips, particularly to Branson Mo. and Dollywood, where she loved to listen to gospel and country western music. LouSarah is survived by two daughters, Sheila Martin, of Champaign, and Elaine (Dave) Kuehl of Mahomet.; her grandchildren, Brian (Missi) Douros of Buffalo Grove, Jamie (Rob) Meagher of Savoy, and Jenna Martin of Champaign.  She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Chase and Channing Douros of Buffalo Grove and Eoghan Meagher of Savoy. LouSarah is also survived by four sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, LouSarah was preceded in death by her Son-in-law, James Martin, and her eight siblings (four sisters, and four brothers) and their spouses.
