Lois Doll Resek Obituary

A beloved daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend Lois Doll Resek passed away March 24, 2026, in Urbana. The daughter of Otto H. and
Helen Hathaway Doll, Lois was born December 23, 1934, in Adams, MA. She grew up in Adams and attended Adams High School, graduating in 1952. Lois then
attended Wheaton College in Norton, MA where she majored in chemistry and was a member of the colleges Mary Lyon Society. Upon graduating in 1956 she
worked as a research chemist for American Cyanamid Corporation in Stamford, CT where she was named as coauthor on several patents of new chemicals.
Subsequently, she participated in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA and then taught high school chemistry and physics at Wakefield High School in Wakefield, MA. She was a member of the Adams Historical Society and supported the Quaker Meeting House in Adams,
where as a child she attended meetings with her grandfather.
While a student at Harvard University she met her beloved, Robert Resek. They were married in Adams in 1960. Together with Robert, she moved to Urbana Champaign in 1961 and worked for several years as a chemist at the Illinois State Water Survey. After their son left home, she returned to high school teaching part time at Rantoul High School in Rantoul, IL. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Urbana, where she was an elder, chaired the mission department, and chaired the nominating committee.
Lois had a strong interest in the musical arts. She and her husband Bob were active in support of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University
of Illinois where she was a member of the Krannert Circle Council and of the Colwell Society. They also established the Lois and Robert Resek Economics endowment to support economics workshops. They were elected members of the University of Illinois Foundation.
She enjoyed travel with her family and lived in Japan and England along withvisiting China, Russia, Tanzania, South America, and Europe.


She is survived by her son, Richard Alden Resek and his wife, Kellie Baker Resek, and two granddaughters, Emma Baker Resek and Ellen Baker Resek of Chesterfield, MO.
She was preceded in death by her adored husband, Robert Resek.
A memorial service will be held at Clark Lindsey Village on April 26 th at 3 pm. A reception will immediately follow. From the halls of learning to stages of art, our passions intertwined. We
cherished Krannert as a place where minds and music meet. May what we cherish here continue to inspire all who follow.”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Lois Resek to either the Krannert Center for Performing Arts at the University of Illinois or to the music
