Judith R. Short

Judith R. Short, 77, of Urbana passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Carle Hospital in Urbana. Judy was born on September 2, 1945 in Vandalia, Illinois, the daughter of Donald and Laura (Shaw) Davidson. On August 22, 1964, Judy married the love of her life, Ron Short, in Urbana. He passed away on June 16, 2020. She is survived by her children; Trent Edward (Jodi) Short of Urbana and Todd Edwin (Shelley) Short of Sidney; two grandchildren; Elysabeth and Matthew Short; and her sister, Prudie Kay Cookson. Judy is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Judy was a 1963 graduate of Urbana High School. She worked at the University of Illinois as an administrative assistant in several colleges including the Illinois Fire Service Institute. Upon leaving there, she worked for Urbana School District 116 as a school secretary and an administrative assistant at Central Office. She returned to the U of I where she worked for many more years before retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Urbana Firefighters Women’s Auxiliary while her husband was on the Urbana Fire Department. She served on the Urbana High School football and baseball Parents Clubs. Judy was a youth group advisor at Webber Street Church of Christ, and she was a member of the Sidney Christian Church. The most important things in Judy’s life were her faith and her family. She supported her sons and then her grandchildren in their sports and school activities. She enjoyed taking trips with her husband, and spending time with her closest friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Judy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, Illinois, 61802. Pastors David Ashby & Scott Sutherland will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 11-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery, Sidney, Illinois.
