Joachim Mufuta

Joachim Mufuta, 68 of Urbana, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.  Joachim was born in Kolwezi, Democratic Republic of the Congo on December 19, 1957, the son of Donatien Mufuta and Angelique Mujani.

Joachim married Josine Ntumba Tshifu on February 12, 1993, at Kinshasa, Congo.  He is survived by his wife Josine and his children, Johan Mufuta, Evodie Tshipampa, Agathe Mbiye, Marlene Odia, Felicite Musuamba, and Olivier Kalonga.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Yves Ntumba.

Joachim graduated from the University of Kinshasa with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.  In the Champaign-Urbana area, he worked for Rockwell Automation until retirement.  He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Champaign.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Friday May 8 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, Urbana.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Saturday May 9 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Dr., Champaign.  Fr. John Damaseni Zilimu will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Champaign.
