Jerry Hess Sr.

Jerry Hess Sr., 89, passed on Sunday August 20, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. Jerry and his twin sister Jennie were born in Springfield, IL on May 2, 1934 to Joseph & Jacqueline (Gardner) Hess. He married Nancy Cooke on July 13, 1954. They recently celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary. Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter Kathryn (Martin) Zientek of Mahomet, son Jerry (Carol) Hess of Urbana, son Eric Hess of Urbana and daughter Becky Hess of Urbana. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Along with his brother- Walter Hess (Hambone) of North Carolina and bonus brother Donnie Monroe of Springfield, IL. He is preceded by his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers and many friends! Boy what a reunion they are having!. Jerry served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed by Country Side Mobile Homes and later was the owner of Jerry’s Mobile Home Maintenance. His passions consisted of his family, whom he loved very much. Lending a helping hand to the Lierman St. Community Garden and camping for 50 years with his wife Nancy and their trusty 5th wheel “Me Too”. While visiting 49 of the 50 states. The west was their favorite to travel, with beautiful mountain scenery and wild buffalo. Hawaii eluded them. As a young man, Jerry enjoyed owning and riding motorcycles and getting his hands dirty as a florist. Favorite pastimes of Jerry’s included watching old westerns that he knew by heart & creating unique wooden yard decorations for family & friends. Always having words of wisdom or a quick comeback for any occasions and of course thanks for hosting your annual fish fry. Jerry is truly one of a kind and will be missed.  Celebration of life service will be held at the VFW Post 630, 1303 E. Main, Urbana, IL 61802 from 1-3:00 PM on Saturday 16, 2023.
