Jerome "Jerry" Ashworth passed away at 5:53 PM on December 24, 2023. He was born at home on March 28, 1937 in North Okaw Township, Coles County, Illinois to William Fears Ashworth and Lois Hance Ashworth. Jerry married Jane Angeline Lamar in 1958 and had two children, Jeffrey Stephen and Elizabeth June. He later married Christina Wustman in 2001. Jerry received a BA in Art History from Eastern Illinois University in 1959. He spent 3 years teaching in the Springfield Public School System. He then spent 30 years working for Mobil Oil Corp. as a sales representative of bulk fuel. He then went to work for Tri-Star Marketing, Urbana, IL until his retirement in 2004. Jerry is survived by his wife Christina "Tina" of Champaign, son Jeffrey of Champaign, and daughter Elizabeth (Ernie) Baillon of Ten Mile, TN. Also surviving are three grandchildren, William (Kathryn) Baillon of Knoxville, TN, Madeliene (Michael) O'Neill of Lebanon, TN, and Wade Baillon of Ten Mile, TN; one great-granddaughter Alene Elizabeth O'Neill of Lebanon, TN.Jerry was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity and Urbana Country Club. His interests included hunting, fishing, and American History. The family would like to thank the staff of the memory care unit of Brookdale Assisted Living in Urbana and Transitions Hospice for the care Jerry received.A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Champaign County Humane Society or Tunnels to Towers.
