Janet H. Glaser, 79 of Champaign, Illinois, passed away July 14 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois. She was born March 9, 1944 in Eugene, Oregon, the daughter of Howard and Barbara (MacLaren) Lorence. She married Michael Glaser on December 14, 1968. She is survived by her husband, her son, Paul Glaser (Jody) of Los Altos California, a daughter, Laura Kerlin (Seth) of Savoy, Illinois, a sister, Judy Head (Gary) of Gresham, Oregon and 4 grandchildren, Amelia, Judson, Benjamin, and Daniel. She is preceded in death by a brother, David Lorence.
Janet graduated from University of Washington in 1966 with a BS, University of California, San Diego in 1971 with a PhD in Biology, and she completed postdoctoral studies at Washington University, St. Louis. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and did research in bacterial genetics and human genetics. The remainder of her professional life was spent at the University of Illinois. Janet was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the biochemistry department. She was later instrumental in starting the Biotechnology Center where she served as Associate Director. Finally, Janet worked as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois. After retirement she became a Master Gardener, and enjoyed reading and quilting. She will always be remembered as a selfless and loving wife, mom, and grandmother. Private services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign, Illinois.
