James Spencer Obituary

James R. Spencer, a father, husband, & friend; of Urbana passed away at his home on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 11am-1pm at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana.

Following the visitation there will be a graveside service at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Urbana.

Jim was born on August 20, 1943, in Champaign, IL to parents John Russell & Elda (Manke) Spencer. They preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from Central High School in Champaign & served an apprenticeship as a Glazier before enlisting & proudly serving in the United States Army. After his service Jim spent his career as a professional glazier working at Arrow Glass & at Bacon & Vanbushkirk for over 40 years. He married his wife Janet in 1980 in Champaign, IL. Jim was a hard worker & known to be a “fix it” kind of guy. He enjoyed building model airplanes & working on the engines. Jim also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, being a member of the Union #1168, a member of the Tawaskote Longrifles Gun Club & playing cards with his son.

Jim is survived by his wife Janet (Douglas) Spencer; daughter Kaley (Lurzie) M. Spencer; son J.R. Spencer; sisters Sharon Cruse & Marcia Glashagel; and his grandson Ryker Spencer.
