James Preston (J.P.) Davisson, 64, of Champaign, IL passed away at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL on December 3, 2025. He was born to Melvin Thomas (Tom) Davisson and Marlene Elaine (Mickey) Davisson (nee Krumeich) on December 24, 1960 at Mercy Hospital in Urbana, IL.
He is survived by his mother of ClarkLindsey Village Urbana, IL and sisters, Diana Marie Davisson of Champaign, IL and Kathleen Elaine Davisson of Littleton, CO. He was preceded in death by his father in 2016 and sister, Teresa Lynn Christensen in 2007.
J.P. graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1979 where he participated in football and track. He attended Parkland Junior College and Illinois State University.
He shared a love of aviation with his father; both were private pilots. J.P. was interested in engineering, assisting with fieldwork in his father’s engineering practice. He was a trivia buff who rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy; he particularly enjoyed playing music-trivia with his sister, Kathleen. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A memorial reception will be held at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana, IL., Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 2-4PM. Interment will be at Mount Hope Mausoleum, Champaign and in outer space via Celestis Memorial Space Flights. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Friends of WILL or the Champaign County Humane Society.
