George James Roney, 87, of Champaign passed away at 11:10 a.m. on February 4, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was born in Urbana on November 17, 1935 the son of George F. & Minnie G.(Duncan) Roney. He married Nancy Carol Walden on March 24, 1961 at First United Methodist Church in Urbana.  George is survived by his wife; son- George B.(Shawn)Roney of Pesotum; daughter-Kimberly(Craig)Wise of Champaign; grandchildren- Jessica Wise, Jacob(Beth)Wise, Jennifer(Colby)Schaffer, Justin Upton, Austin(Amanda) Upton, Jake Juday; great grandchild- Luke Wise. He is preceded by his parents; sisters- Jeanette Parks and Janine Martin. George is a Navy veteran. He began his twenty year career with the Urbana Fire Department on January 1, 1958 and retired as the Assistant Chief on April 22, 1978. He was a member of Firefighters Union 1147 and the Masonic Lodge.
