Garnet Martin, 90, of Savoy, formerly of Champaign, passed away at
12:27 p.m. on December 10, 2025, at her home in Autumn Fields Adult
Community surrounded by her daughters, and care-giver Sue Lawrence.
Garnet was born on May 11, 1935, in Xenia Illinois, the daughter of
Willie & Freeda (Barnhouse) Worlow. She married Gene Martin on May
30, 1971.
Garnet is survived by her daughters; Sherry (Brian) Reed of Savoy, IL,
Dawn (Bill) Toland of Urbana, IL, and son Michael Litherland of Ina,
IL, Stepchildren; Laurie Martin of Champaign, IL, Shelly (Eddie)
Clement of Crawford, CO, and Michael (Stephanie) Martin of
Champaign, IL; Eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren;
brother; Doyle (Linda) Worlow of Girard, IL.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Garnet
Litherland, grandson Thomas Martin and brothers Chlores Worlow and Caroll Worlow.
Garnet graduated from Cisne High School, Cisne, IL in 1953. She went
to cosmetology school and was a hairdresser for over 50 years. Working
at the Forestry Salon, Sylvan Room, Castilian Court, and Charley’s in
Urbana, IL During her time as a hairdresser, she had the honor to do the
hair of First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, wife of President Lyndon
Johnson.
Garnet enjoyed going on trips with Gene and their dear friends Rose and
Tom, spending time at Sun Singer, doing hair for all her clients, listening
to music, and spending time with family, her grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff and residents at
Autumn Fields for the compassionate care provided to mom during her
10 years at the facility. Your friendship, kindness, dedication, and
support will never be forgotten. We are forever grateful for the love and
friendship brought into our lives.

Also, words cannot express our gratitude to the staff at Town Square
Hospice. Your compassion, kindness, and unwavering support during
mom’s final days will forever be cherished. Thank you for the love and
care you provided during this difficult time.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 5-7:00 p.m. at
Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, Illinois. A private
graveside service will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview, Il. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
