Freda A. DeCerbo, 75, of Champaign passed away at 9:07 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was born on December 14, 1947 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Jean (Barber)Williams. Freda is survived by her son- Anthony DeCerbo of Champaign; grandson- Kahlil DeCerbo. She is preceded by her mother, Jean Barber Williams
Freda graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor’s in Education and Master’s in Counseling. Freda was part of The Akron Beacon Journal when they accepted the Pulitzer Prize for covering the Kent State shooting. Freda taught Psychology at Parkland College for 35 years, and wrote the grant for the Parkland College Child Development Center, which her grandson attended. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, giving countless hours in service and counseling to the community. Freda studied painting masters and masterpieces. She made a library of scrapbooks for her family to enjoy. Freda is remembered most for her loving kindness. Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at St. Patrick Church, 708 W Main Street, Urbana, IL 61801. Father Anthony Co will be officiating.
