Florence Elaine Delaplane Obituary
Florence Elaine Delaplane, 101, a life-long resident of Urbana, died early Friday morning
December 6, 2024 at Brookdale Senior Living.
Elaine was born on July 10, 1923, in Champaign, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon Bean and
Helen Bean (Basye). Her parents divorced while she was young, and she was raised in Urbana by
her mother, grandmother, and two aunts. She attended Urbana schools, graduating from Urbana

downtown Urbana.
She married Richard O. Cox in May 1943. After he returned from Europe following his service
in the US Army Air Corps, Dick and Elaine built a home in Urbana where their three children
were born. Elaine remained in that house until she moved to assisted living in 2021. She was a
life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Urbana. She was a dedicated driver for Meals on
Wheels and enjoyed reading for the blind.
Dick passed away in 1978. Elaine loved to dance and through this she met William Delaplane.
Bill and Elaine were married in 1987. They enjoyed dancing and wintering in Gulfport, Florida,
where Elaine met many new friends. Bill died in 2013.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Cox (Donna Pittman) of Savoy, Illinois, and Randy Cox of
Urbana; daughter Monica Cox of Urbana; granddaughter Jennifer Cox Lange (Andrew) of
Nashville, Tennessee; grandson Bryan Cox of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and niece Fran Field
(Bruce) of Henderson, Nevada.
Per Elaine’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Memorial contributions may be made
