Evelyn Mae Kesler, 91, of Greenwood, IN, formerly of Savoy and Urbana, IL, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Aspen Trace Health & Living Community, Greenwood, IN, surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born December 25, 1930 in Marshall, IL, the daughter of Walter V. and Dorothy L. (Miller) Kiger. She married Richard P. Kesler June 12, 1951 in Robinson, IL. Richard preceded her in death on October 2, 2016, after 65 years of marriage.

Evelyn is survived by three daughters; Sandra Kay Potzer of Murrells Inlet, SC; Sarah Ann (Dan) Nelson of Ramsey, MN; Susan Kay (Bill) Bonner of Greenwood, IN; and a son, Richard Scott (Donna) Kesler of Champaign, IL. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Julia Bryant, Karl Potzer, Richard Kesler, Scott Kesler, Zach Nelson, Jordan Stoeger, and Brandi Bonner; ten great-grandchildren (and one on the way).

She was preceded in death by an infant son; her son-in-law, Ferdinand Potzer; and her brother, Walter G. Kiger.

Evelyn graduated from Bridgeport Township High School and Lockyear Business College in Evansville, IN. She retired from her position as an administrative assistant at the University of Illinois, after working at the Coordinated Science Laboratory and the Beckman Institute. She was a member of Savoy United Methodist Church, Savoy, IL, and formerly Grace United Methodist Church, Urbana, IL.

Evelyn’s interests included sewing, antiques, camping and traveling. Richard, Evelyn, and their children enjoyed many extended family vacations traveling out west in a pop-up camper. Upon retirement, Richard and Evelyn traveled to destinations including Alaska, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand in addition to many nights camping throughout the United States.

Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was deeply cherished by her family.

Visitation will be held at noon Friday, December 9 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be immediately following at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo, IL. Chaplain David Rosenthall will officiate.
