Earlane Sellers Obituary

Earlane Lucille (Carter) Sellers passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024, in Champaign, Illinois. Born on October 28, 1930, to Albert and Estella Carter in Benton Harbor, Michigan, she grew up in Michigan. Her first job after moving out of her parents’ home was decorating cakes for a local bakery.  She lived in New York for five years before moving to Champaign, Illinois. A life-long learner, Earlane learned to play the piano as an adult. She attended Westchester Community College while in New York. She learned to play the guitar and studied French during that time. Moving to Illinois, she transferred to the University of Illinois College of Fine and Applied Arts and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Painting in February of 1972. She was well recognized for her scholastic excellence, including having her name on the "bronze tablet". As a student and as an independent artist after graduating, she painted deans, coaches, and friends. She drew, painted and was a potter and sculptor. After graduating, Earlane worked for the University of Illinois Department of Admissions and Records and was instrumental in guiding how courses taken at other institutions transferred. Later in life, when she found it difficult to paint, she continued her pursuit of knowledge, studying many topics, including physics, nutrition, music, astronomy, and spiritualism.

Earlane's children grew up in a home filled with art, books, music, laughter, and love. She is survived by her daughter Kathi Moore, son Matt (Teresa) Sellers, sister Betty Toney, brother Al (Joy) Carter, sister Jan (Dan) Aubrey, 3 grandchildren, 6 (almost 7) great-grandchildren. Entombment was at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, Illinois on May 28, 2024.
