CHAMPAIGN, IL-Dr. Dorothy Heidel Schultz, 95, of Champaign, passed away at 4:35 AM on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
There will be no public services. Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, is assisting with cremation for Dorothy.
Dorothy was born November 27, 1928, a daughter of Harry and Anna Heidel. She married Donald Schultz on July 25, 1950; he preceded her in death.
Dorothy graduated from Mankato State Teachers College in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Dorothy then received her M.D. degree from the University of Iowa in 1959, at a time when very few women entered medical school.
Dorothy worked in private practice in Champaign, IL with her husband, Donald, until his retirement. In 1986, Dr. Schultz became a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Until her retirement, Dr. Schultz worked as an Emergency Room physician at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon, IL. In their spare time, both Dorothy and her husband performed magic shows throughout central Illinois.
Dorothy was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Magicians, and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Dorothy also raised doves for many years, which she and her husband used in their magic shows.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
