Dorothea Ellen Fredrickson Smith, 89 of Urbana passed away on January 3,2O23 at Carle Hospital after a brief illness. Dorothea was born on October 17,1933 on the family farm in Vermillion County to Clarence and Flora Foster Fredrickson. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marjorie Bertsche, brother, Stanton Fredrickson, first husband, Richard Smith, 2nd husband, R. Stewart Jones and son-in-law Art Sorkin. Dorothea was a proud graduate of the U of I and a Bronze Tablet Scholar. She was an educator and very active volunteer for multiple groups in the CU community. Exchange Club of Urbana, Election Judge, Active Senior Republicans, League of Women Voters and Meals on Wheels were just a few of the many groups she enjoyed. She loved to meet people and share her optimistic outlook on life. A celebration of life will be planned for later this year. She is survived by her daughter Diane Smith of Mesa, AZ, daughter Karen (Jan) Miller of Urbana, grandson Henri (Monika) Miller of Stoughton, Wl, grandson Kevin (Libby) Miller of Champaign , granddaughter Nancy {Dave} Gloe of Highland Park, lL and great grandsons James Gloe and Oliver Miller.
