Carol Ann Edwards entered her Heavenly home with Jesus, free from Earthly pain, at 2:07 a.m. on May 27, 2025. She was 91 years old when she passed away on Tuesday at her home in Urbana, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at noon on Monday, June 2 at Webber Street Christian Church (107 S. Webber St., Urbana) with the Rev. Sam Stow officiating. Visitation will begin at 11am on Monday at the church; burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Champaign after the funeral. Food will be served at Webber Street Church following the burial.
Carol Ann was born on Saturday, December 30, 1933 in Mattoon, Illinois. She was the beloved daughter of Harlan Joseph Perry and Eva Grace (Ward) Perry, who preceded her in death in 1980 and 1992; cherished wife to Dale Ivan Edwards, her husband of 62 years who preceded her in death on January 17, 2017; and the treasured sibling of Phyliss Jean Frazier, who preceded her sister in death on March 21, 1999. Carol Ann is survived by her four children: Cheryl Wendt, Cathy (Bill) Barnett, Alan Edwards, and Steve (Brenda) Edwards. They have eight grandchildren: Travis (Emily) Wendt, Miranda (Trent) Humes, Caitlin (Roberto) Barnett, Grace Barnett, Drew Edwards, Amara Edwards, Joshua (Melvina) Edwards, and Elizabeth Edwards. There are also nine great-grandchildren: Cordelia and Oliver Wendt; Damian and Desmond Humes; Ace Edwards; Haven, A'lonna, and Makenna King; and one more on the way (Eli) in August. Carol’s love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds.
Carol Ann attended High school in Mattoon, Illinois and Festus, Missouri. She was a leader in the nursing profession, serving as the administrator for the former Garwood Home in Champaign for over 20 years; she was also active in her community, serving on the PTA as President (Urbana), the board of directors for the American Cancer Society, and President of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Carol spent time volunteering at Carle Hospital spending days servicing guests at the Auxiliary house and helping in the gift shop. Carol was always one to stay busy between work and family. Carol Ann was a devoted member and Sunday school teacher at Webber Street Christian Church in Urbana.
Carol Ann loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she was a wonderful mother to her children. Carol had a knack for creating everlasting memories for her loved ones. She had a love for the beach and vacations with her grandkids. Always welcoming, loving, and supportive–she was the glue and guiding light in the lives of her loved ones. Her kindness, compassion, and devotion to family will be cherished forever.
