Carol Anne Kubitz passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Carle Foundation
Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Carol was born on March 15, 1938 in Champaign, IL the daughter of Ralph and
Vera (Kellogg) Hay. She graduated from Urbana High School and attended the
University of Illinois where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. In 1960
Carol married William (Bill) Kubitz, whom she met at University Theater at the U
of I. She first taught third grade at Lincoln School, and then at Co-op Nursery
School for many years. Following that, she worked as a graphic artist for the U of I
School of Life Sciences until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Emily Hoffman (Michael) of Kirkland, WA, a son,
James Kubitz (Kimberly) of Lawrenceburg, IN and five grandchildren, Curtis
Hoffman (Adrian) of Thorp, WA, Drew Hoffman of Long Beach, CA and Anna, Evan
and Leah Kubitz of Lawrenceburg, IN. Family was always dear to Carol and she
worked hard to see them all as often as she could.
Carol was an active member of the community, sitting on boards including the
Marilyn Queller Child Care Center, UI Chi Omega, Urbana Park District and OLLI.
She designed newsletters, brochures and invitations for local organizations
including the C-U Symphony, UI Chi Omega and OLLI. She also mentored
students, and donated time to the library, at Yankee Ridge School.
Carol and Bill traveled extensively, visiting all continents except Antarctica. They
attended many performances each season at Krannert Center. Carol was an avid
fan and supporter of U of I football, basketball and volleyball.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Carol at Clark Lindsey Village on June 7 th at
1:00PM. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in support of the Wandell Sculpture
Garden may be made to the Urbana Parks Foundation and mailed to 303 W.
