Carol Ann Harrison Obituary

Carol Ann Harrison, 86, of Champaign, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Carol was born in Armstrong, Illinois, on December 16, 1937, the daughter of William Earl and Anna Ola Plotner.

Carol was preceded in death by older sisters Norma Davis and Wilma (Pid) Curtis, half-brother Ed, son Roger Harrison, and grandson Travis Harrison.

Carol is survived by older brother John Plotner, sons Rick Harrison and Rodney Harrison, and daughter Lori (Mike) Larson.

Carol is also survived by 4 grandchildren (Randi, William, Grace, Matthew), and 6 great grandchildren (Peyton, Quincy, Tyson, Mason, Kinsleigh, Mia).

Carol grew up in rural Armstrong on a small homestead that was a regular gathering spot for the extended family throughout her life. Carol graduated from Armstrong High School in 1956. Upon graduation she moved into the Champaign-Urbana area where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Throughout her life, Carol worked at several different places in Champaign County. She started her working career in an office support role at the University of Illinois and after a few years transitioned to another office support role at Chanute Air Force Base. Later in life, Carol worked at Bishops buffet as a customer service hostess, as well as Goodwill as a cashier. She loved serving her customers and appreciated the relationships that she developed with the people that she served in each of the different positions.

Carols most important and fulfilling role was that as a mother to her four children. She loved her children and devoted her life to always being a loving presence in their life.

Carol’s extended family meant the world to her, and she cherished the time she was able to spend with her children, siblings, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She rarely missed a family gathering and in her later years was a regular at her grandkid’s activities.

In addition to her relatives, Carol cherished the role that her church family played in her life. She grew up attending the Number Ten Church of Christ in Potomac, IL. She started attending First Christian Church in Champaign early in her young adult life, where she worshipped and served for decades. For the past several years she has attended C-U Church in Champaign. Carol loved her church family deeply and enjoyed all the time she spent serving and in fellowship with her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Carol was a people person at heart. She enjoyed nothing more than to be present with the family and friends that she loved. Carol always strove to put the needs of other above her own and was more than willing to sacrifice her personal needs and desires to serve the needs of others. She loved others, because Christ loved her first.

The Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at First Christian Church, 3601 S. Staley Rd, Champaign, IL. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 PM, followed by a time for fellowship until 6:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Christian Church, where Carol and her daughter volunteered in the nursery for several years.
