Bonnie L. Renfrew, 79, of Urbana, passed away at 3:03 pm on July 4, 2025, at Brookdale
Senior Living.
Known affectionately by many names: Bonnie, Mama, Grandma Bonnie, Bonno and Bon Bon -
she was an amazing mother with a beautiful soul and a loving, generous, and thoughtful sister.
Family was everything to her. She shared her faith through kindness, compassion, and an
unyielding trust in God's plan and was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in
Urbana.
She was born on October 19, 1945 to Oscar and Alice (Kimpel) Adams. She spent summers
working at Crystal Lake Pool and graduated from Urbana High School in 1963. She lived in
Europe and across the United States while building her family with Micheal Renfrew. Bonnie
enjoyed creating beautiful cross stich treasures and while living in Europe, making brass
rubbings. She could make any plant grow and hosted warm, memorable family gatherings.
Before her retirement in 2010, Bonnie contributed her talents to the Illinois State Geological
Survey.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters Christine Renshaw (Greg) of Mahomet and Kathryn
Wimmer of Danville; her siblings Nancy Davidson (Craig), Barbara Adams and Steve Adams
(Terrie); her daughter-in-law, Bobbie Renfrew Rushing, her eight grandchildren: Jennifer Cook
(Brandon), Jake Renfrew, Luke Renfrew (Isabella), Matt Renfrew (Imane), Thomas Wimmer
(Julie), Sydney Wimmer (Anthony Watson), Nicole Cockerill (Riley) and Daniel Renshaw
(Lexie), and four great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Easton and Keely Ogle and Tyrus Watson. She
will be dearly missed by her loyal canine companion, Violet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Alice Adams, two brothers, Oscar Bill
Adams and Richard Dick Adams and by her beloved son, Brian Renfrew.
We share the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I
have kept the faith.
A private service will be held at a later date to honor Bonnie’s life.
