Betty J. Coon James 93 of Urbana, passed away on Wednesday October 9, 2024 surrounded by her family at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.  Betty was born October 16, 1930 in Pesotum, the daughter of Kenneth L. and Katheryn L. (Bishop) Martin.  She married James L. Coon in 1950 he passed away March 8, 1998.  She married David F. James on June 10, 2000 in Mahomet, he survives.  She also is survived by a son Marvin Coon, Clearwater FL, daughters Bonnie Kumm (Ervin), Susan Wedig (Rick) both from Champaign, Stepsons Scott James (Tina) Rantoul and Jeff James, Tallahassee FL, Step-Daughter Cindy Williams, Urbana; and Grandchildren Jennifer Gussman, Nic Wedig, Ryan Wedig, Karen Turnbough, and step-grandson Joshua James.  She was blessed with 5 Great grandchildren: Kayla Alexander, Trevor Gussman, and Kaden, Logan and Madison Wedig.

Betty graduated from Champaign Senior High School in 1948. She was a homemaker most of her life.  After raising her children she was a part time secretary for State Farm Insurance, Parkland College and Unit 4 Schools.  She was a member of Faith Methodist Church, Champaign and later Grace Methodist Church, Urbana. 

Betty's greatest love was her family and loved to be called “mom and grandma”.  She loved all holidays, celebrated and decorated for them all.  She loved to entertain and especially babysit her granddog Louie.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. October 15 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 Philo Rd., Urbana with funeral services at 11:00 am.  Rev. Gary Ford will officiate.  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign and Jack Barnell will officiate.
