Barbara L. Roberts died on October 11, 2023 at the age of 95 in Seattle, WA where she had lived since January 2013. Barb was born March 11, 1928, in Urbana, the daughter of Russell and Helen (Horning) Stamey. She married Thomas D. (Tim) Roberts on April 16, 1949. Born and raised in Urbana, Barb attended the one room Somer School and graduated from Urbana High School, class of 1945. She attended the FIrst (United) Methodist Church in Urbana and taught Sunday School there for a number of years. She loved living on the family farm, liked to cook and take care of people. Barb was bitten by the genealogy bug and began volunteering in the archives department at the Urbana Free Library and was later employed as a library archivist and ultimately as Director of The Champaign County Historical Archives. She retired in 1886. Also a member of the Champaign County Genealogical Society, many vacations were spent happily looking through birth, death, and marriage records in county seats all over Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband Tim in 2017. Survivors include a son, Gary, daughter-in-law Kim, and two grandsons, Andrew and Samuel Roberts, all of Seattle, WA. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1803 N Coler Ave, Urbana, IL.
