Zoila
Risatti
Sep 14, 1918 — Jan 6, 2011
Zoila C. Risatti (nee Munarin), 92, died Wednesday morning January 6, 2011 at Carle Hospital.
A Funeral mass will be held 9:00 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Urbana. Fr. Joseph Hogan will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Chicago. A visitation will be held 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at Renner-Wikoff Chapel 1900 S. Philo Rd. Urbana.
She was born in the coal mining town of Lafferty, Ohio on September 14, 1918 to Maria (Zavagnin) and Antonio Munarin. Her parents and brothers were immigrants from the Veneto region of Italy.
The family later moved to the primarily Italian neighborhood of Kensington on Chicago's far south side where she attended George M. Pullman grammar school and St. Louis Academy High School.
She married James B. Risatti of Lake Garda, Italy on June 26, 1941 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Chicago. They were married 49 years and had four children: James Bruno (Leslie) of Urbana, IL, Howard (Christina) of Richmond, Va., Cornelia Zenz (James) of McAllen, TX and William (Celeste) of DeKalb, IL.
She and her husband were entrepreneurs who had real estate holdings and owned various small businesses. They began with The Penguin Ice Cream and Sundries store in Kensington which they owned until 1949: in 1950 they purchased a supermarket in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas. They returned to Chicago where they established the Parkway Inn at two locations on the south side from 1952 until 1967. After retiring from business, Zoila, who loved to travel, managed the Pullman Travel Agency which enabled her to extend her travels beyond visiting relatives in Europe.
She was preceded in death by her husband James and her brothers Joseph, John and Mario.
Surviving in addition to her children are her grandchildren: James Zenz, Susanne (Zenz) Martinez, Carrie and Gabriella Risatti and Alana Risatti and numerous cousins in Italy.
In Liu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Patrick Catholic Church of Urbana, IL. Building Fund or to the Father Martell Scholarship Fund at St. Patrick's.
