Obituary

Wilma Jean "Willie" Clark 88 of Champaign died at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, Pastor Scott Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo. A reception will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Wilma was born on March 14, 1927 in Champaign, the daughter of Carl Clayton and Nellie Grace Lafenhagen Clark.

Survivors include; two brothers; Wayne (Lola) Clark of Mattoon, Carl William "Bill" Clark of Springfield, 6 nieces and nephews; Jeanie (Scott) Weber of Ashmore, John (Susan) Clark of Mattoon, Jackie (Brad) Perry of Mattoon, William "Billy" Clark of Springfield, Denese Schaljo of Springfield, Dana Clark of Springfield, 9 great nieces and nephews, 6 great-great nieces and nephews and a special friend; Peggy Roberts.

She was preceded in death by one nephew; Mark Clark.

Wilma graduated from Neoga High School in 1945 and the Julia Burnham School of Nursing in 1948.

After graduation, Wilma began her nursing career in the Operating Room at Burnham City Hospital. In 1951 she volunteered to go to Colorado Springs, CO to care for children who had been stricken with polio. After her return, she went to the Anesthesia School at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She later worked at Dr. Schowengert's office for 4 years. She spent a short time working with polio patients at R & E Hospital in Chicago until 1956 when she returned to Burnham in Contagious Diseases. In 1962 she went back to the O.R. for the next 8 years. In 1970 she then worked as the Head Nurse in Burnham's first Catheterization Lab where she was very instrumental. She retired from Burnham in 1989 and then worked as a part-time Cath Lab Consultant at Mercy Hospital. In 1991 she joined Affiliates in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery where she worked until the age of 82. Wilma was a dedicated nurse, friend and family member who enjoyed helping people. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Wilma was member of the Temple Baptist Church, Champaign and the Burnham Nurses Alumni Association.
