William E.
Walton
Jun 13, 1946 — Jun 23, 2015
William Edward Walton, 69, born to Dr. Clarence and Ruth Walton on June 13, 1946 in Belleville, IL, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sisters, Rosemary Nadeau (East Windsor, NJ) and Sharon Hunt (Aloha, OR).
Bill grew up in Lebanon and Urbana, IL where he graduated from Urbana High School in 1964 and attended the University of Montana before entering the U.S. Army in 1968. During his service, he was stationed in an armored division in Germany. After his active duty, Bill returned to Urbana and was an x-ray technician at Carle Hospital.
Later in life, Bill became well known by the citizens of campus town and Urbana as he could be seen daily at Lincoln Square, where he always felt most comfortable. Bill was a kind and gentle soul who quietly accepted the generosity of his fellow citizens. He would spend his nights at the McKinley Men's Emergency Shelter in the winter months. In 2011, with help from the city, Bill was able to reside at the VA hospital in Danville and was later transferred to Amber Glen in Urbana. Recently, more intensive care was needed and Bill moved to Illini Heritage Nursing Home in Champaign, and eventually into hospice care.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's honor to the Times Center, 70 E. Washington St., Champaign, IL 61820.
