Obituary

Willa C. Strothmann, 91, of Urbana (formerly of Philo), passed away at 11:40 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Champaign County Nursing Home.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1st at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 2nd at First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, 602 W. Green St.

Mrs. Strothmann was born May 10, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents Irvin L. Sr. and Gertrude (Henig) Sigler. She married Maynard H. Strothmann June 26, 1948. He preceded her in death August 6, 1999. Willa is survived by son, Mark Strothmann (fiancAC., Sharon Maddox, Chesterfield, MO), of Brentwood, Missouri, and brother, Irvin L. Sigler Jr., of Dover, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, and son, Paul L. Strothmann.

While she was in grade school, her family moved to Dayton, Ohio where she graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1943. She graduated from Elmhurst College (IL) in 1948. While in college, she met her future husband, Maynard Strothmann. After their marriage in 1948, they lived in New York City where he attended Union Theological Seminary and she worked at the Missionary Research Library. Following his ordination to Christian ministry, they lived in Ohio, Colorado, Kansas, Indiana, and Illinios as he served as a college teacher, campus minister, and local church pastor. They moved to Carterville, IL in 1974 where she served as the Director of the Carterville Public Library. In 1980, they moved to Philo, IL where she served on Philo Library Board and was a member of the Friends of the Philo Public Library, Philo's Woman Club, and Philo Presbyterian Church. After their retirement in 1987, they remained in Philo.

She moved in the Champaign County Nursing Home in 2010. At the time of her death, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, IL.
