Wendell G. Anderson of Urbana, Illinois died at 11:39 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23rd 2011. A funeral service will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church in Urbana Saturday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Dr. John Sims will officiate. Private burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Breese, IL. Mr. Anderson was born December 22, 1921 at San Benito, Texas, a son of the late Oscar William and Laura Glover Anderson. He married Cleo Lorene Boggy on June 22, 1946, at Breese, Illinois. She survives. Also surviving are sons Lyle Anderson of St. Louis, MO; Paul Anderson of Homer, IL; Alan Anderson of Urbana and a brother Roger Anderson of Winter Haven, FL. He has 2 grandchildren Cora Olsen and Nicholas Anderson and 3 great grandchildren: Nathan, Alex & Kayleigh. Mr. Anderson earned a bachelors degree from Illinois State Normal University and masters and doctors degrees from the University of Illinois. He served on active duty with the United States Navy reserve from 1943-46 achieving the rank of Lieutenant (Jr. Grade). He was teacher and principal of the Warrensburg-Latham High School, Warrensburg, IL; Principal of Thornburn and Urbana Junior High Schools, Urbana, IL; Principal of the University Junior High School, DeKalb, IL; and appointed Associate Dean of the UI Division of University Extension in 1968 at the University of Illinois and later promoted to professor and retired in 1983. He was a teacher and officer in the Illinois Junior High School Principals Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, American Council on Education, International Ph Delta Kappa, International Wood Collectors Society, Torch Club, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Champaign County Retired Teachers Association, the Exchange Club of Urbana, and the Ambassadors Club. Mr. Anderson was a member of the First United Methodist Church-Urbana serving as officer on boards and committees and as teacher of church school classes for youth and adults. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church -Urbana.
