Wayne Oakes, 89, of Urbana died surrounded by his loving family at 9:05 p.m. Saturday (April 6, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He is survived by his wife Margaret who loved him very much.

In addition to his wife Margaret, he is survived by two sons and a daughter, Thomas Oakes (Karen), David Oakes (Mary) and Jana Doig (David); three grandchildren, Sean, Diana and Danielle; his sister-in-law, Rose Camardo; and many nieces and nephews.

As a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force, Wayne proudly served his country as a B-24 navigator in Europe during World War II. Wayne had a song for every occasion and shared them often with family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 18th, at St. Patrick's Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana. Visitation will be at the church from 4:00 until the time of the service. A reception will be held immediately after mass.
