CHAMPAIGN, IL- Walter Eugene Cooper, 91, of Champaign, died at 3:50 AM, Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the Inman Plaza, Champaign, IL.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, January 18, 2008 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. Rev. J. Wesley Wilkey will officiate. Burial will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery, Urbana, with military rites accorded by V.F.W. Post 5520, Champaign. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Cooper was born May 31, 1916 at Urbana, IL, a son of Hiram Milton and Lula Cox Cooper. He married Helen Laverne Wood on June 10, 1945 at Urbana. She survives. Also surviving are two sons: Jimmie Cooper and wife, Karen of Champaign and Terry Cooper and wife, Cindy of Normal, IL. 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a grandchild.

Mr. Cooper graduated from Urbana High School in 1934 and served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He later worked as a machinist for the Illinois State Geological Survey for 34 years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Champaign, and American Legion Post 24, Champaign.
